I did not use the Dragons much, except as Lord's mount, since the enemy's archers are very effective against it. They are quite tanky and their breathe attacks might decimate the enemies if positioned rightly. I'd bring from two to three Cold Ones units per army. I find my cavalry units are better off defencing flanks against enemy's cavalry, most of the time take considerable damages, or hunting down routing units, rather than playing aggressively, unlike HE's Silverhelms or Dragon Princes who are both a lot more flexible. The Cold Ones units of DE (spears and non-spears) are powerful if fighting solely against other cavalry units but their rampage hurts them.

DE's chariots can shoot arrows but I don't think I know how to use it effectively. HE's Ithilmar Chariots are really, really powerful, especially during the early phase if I micromanage them. I am not so sure how do I feel about the DE's chariots. Black Guards always take tremendous casualty, and the Executioners survive only because of special care. In campaign, it is inevitable that DE would have to fight HE at some point, and the later's armour-piercing and range are such a nightmare to my front. The problem is that although these units can hold well, and the Executioners can destroy most infantry line, they are all vulnerable against archers. Dark Riders and Harpies are usable in the early phase but I eradicated them very soon. In early game, I like to bring along an artillery piece put remove it later, as it isn't as useful anymore. The missile units are a mixture of five to six Shades and Darkshards. I'd normally bring two and sometimes three Har Garneth Executioners along. My front line infantry would be a mixture of five to seven Black Guards of Naggarond and Dreadspears the later would be replaced with Black Guards when the economy allows it. Generally, I'd build an army with a Lord, a Death Hag, a Sorceress and an optional Assassin. I find this buff very useful, especially the upkeep reduction buff. My army would generally depends on the Lord's Name of Power. They do have an amazing economy and quite an impressive army roster, from my perspective.

I have been on and off with playing the Dark Elves in Eye of the Vortex map for a while now.
